Esteemed scientists and healthcare professionals,
Given the rise in the elderly population, the issue of 'Fragile Balance in Geriatrics' – osteoporosis, sarcopenia and chronic diseases – has become a significant concern in the field of geriatric practice. The intricacy of the subject under discussion is such that individuals experiencing these complaints often seek consultation with a range of medical specialists, from various fields of expertise, in an attempt to identify an effective solution to their problems.
The maintenance of optimal muscle and bone health is of paramount importance at all stages of life. However, this becomes particularly salient in old age, both in the management of diseases and in disease prevention. Our observations in this context indicate that osteoporosis and sarcopenia are sometimes relegated to the background in daily practice, overlooked, and sometimes even treated superficially without being adapted to the dynamics of the elderly individual's life or daily living activities.
In this particular case, given the nature and extent of the elderly individual's chronic diseases and the treatments utilized for these conditions, osteoporosis and sarcopenia, which are closely related to each other, are of particular relevance. In the context of morbid conditions, it is our contention that two geriatric syndromes – osteoporosis and sarcopenia – which are closely related to each other, must be thoroughly examined and discussed in all their dimensions.
Consequently, the overarching theme of the 4th International and 13th National Geriatrics Days has been designated as 'Fragile Balance in Geriatrics: Osteoporosis, Sarcopenia and Chronic Diseases'. The subject of discussion at the symposium will include conditions such as osteoporosis, sarcopenia and chronic diseases in geriatric cases. The duration of the symposium is scheduled to be two days.
The 4th International and 13th National Geriatrics Days are scheduled to take place at Dokuz Eylül University Sabanci Cultural Centre in Izmir on 4-5 June 2026. It is with great pleasure that we extend a cordial welcome to esteemed scientists from our nation and from across the globe. These distinguished individuals have been recognized for their exceptional scientific accomplishments within their respective domains. We are honored to host them at our symposium. For oral presentations that are deemed suitable by the scientific committee, both in-person and online presentation options will be available, depending on the preferences of the conference participants. Subsequent to the symposium, the oral presentations will be published in the conference proceedings.
The following professionals are to be included in the study: geriatric specialists, neurology specialists, internal medicine specialists, physical therapy specialists, rehabilitation specialists, all physicians, gerontologists, physiotherapists, nurses, psychologists, dieticians, and social service specialists. The study will also include any other professionals providing services for elderly health in Izmir.
Yours sincerely,
President of the Geriatric Sciences Association and Symposium
